A slow Sunday in Mannheim's industrial heritage. Towards the end of the 19th century, factories emerged along the Rhine that were made accessible through the (then) new industrial port, finished in 1907.
On Sundays not much happens there. The occasional bike riding family on their way to town. A sister hurrying to the mosque, quickly finishing her fag. Someone looking after the tomatoes they planted behind the factory.
Quietly preparing for the busy week days, when you need to watch out for trucks delivering goods, always on a tight schedule to reach all their pick-up and drop-off stations of the day.
On many of these factories I found plaques that explain, that these factories were stolen from their jewish founders and taken away during nazi times. Many owner families were killed in concentration camps.
